What it involves
Bruxism is the habit of clenching or grinding your teeth, often unconsciously and especially at night. Over time it can cause jaw pain, tooth wear, muscle tension and headaches. Dr. Clara Navarro addresses it with botulinum toxin applied to the masseter muscle, which reduces its contraction strength and relieves the overload, while also helping to soften the jaw contour.
Benefits
- Less jaw tension and pain
- Protects against tooth wear
- Softer jaw contour
Who is it for?
This option is for you if you clench or grind your teeth, feel a tense jaw when you wake up, or suffer from headaches and discomfort in the masseter area. It may also interest you if your dentist has warned you about tooth wear. At your first visit, the doctor assesses your case and tells you honestly whether this approach is right for you.
What the session is like
The session begins with an assessment of the jaw and palpation of the masseter muscle to locate the exact points. The doctor applies the botulinum toxin with a very fine needle on each side, in a measured way. It usually takes 15 to 20 minutes, is done in the clinic, and you can resume your day normally afterwards.
Results and how long they last
Relief from tension usually starts to be noticed from the first or second week, when the toxin takes full effect. The result lasts roughly between 4 and 6 months, depending on each person, and can be repeated to maintain the improvement. Any reduction in masseter volume appears gradually.
Aftercare
After the session you can return to normal life right away. It is advised not to lie down or massage the area during the first few hours, and to avoid intense heat and demanding exercise that same day. The doctor will give you personalised instructions and schedule a check-up to assess the effect and adjust it if needed.
